On the tenth of September 2016, to coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day, See Me Scotland community champion Kathleen Gilluley hosted a 'Pass the Badge' and 'Walk a Mile' event in her hometown of Strathaven.

The event was all about challenging stigma and raising awareness of Mental Health and the discrimination surrounding it.

Inspired by 'Walk a Mile' founder Chris Young's walk around the UK, Kathleen, Chris and 40 other people set off on a walk around Strathaven Park.  Each person was paired with a person they didn't know, opening up the opportunity for an honest conversation about struggles and triumphs in relation to Mental Health, without fear of stigma or judgement.

Stigma and shame create separation. An 'us and them'. See Me and Walk a Mile aim to break down these barriers. After the walk around Strathaven Park the walkers gathered in the Barrie Shelter for refreshments and it was evident that, for these 40 people at least, a difference had been made.
