This two day course, organised by Neighbourhood Networks, will take place on Thursday 18th and Thursday 25th February 2016.  Participants should be able to commit to attending both days (9.30 am - 4pm.)

At the Jim Foley Centre, Craigneuk, Wishaw

Target audience: All who have a professional or personal interest in the field of mental health.

The course does not train people to be mental health workers. It offers basic general information about mental health problems. The knowledge presented and understanding developed in the course helps to remove stigma and fear and to give confidence in approaching a person in distress.

Mental Health First Aid is an initial response to distress and all participants on the course understand that this help is given only until other suitable or professional help can be found

Aims of SMHFA:

  • To preserve life
  • To provide practical help
  • To promote the recovery of good mental health
  • To provide comfort to a person experiencing distress
  • To promote understanding of mental health issues

Objectives:

By the end of this training participants will have considered:

  • Attitudes to mental health issues
  • The recovery message
  • The impact of alcohol and drugs
  • Suicide intervention
  • Listening skills
  • Self harm
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Psychosis

All participants will be given a copy of the SMHFA manual and a certificate on completion of the course.

COST: £40 for the two day course (including lunch and refreshments.)
